You Just Lost Some More Money – Amazon MCF Fees Going Up

Time to read: 5 minutes

Do you smell something? Smells like your money is on fire… again.

If you smell it too it’s because Amazon FBA has gotten back into your bank account and is burning all your money. Why you ask? Amazon multi-channel fulfillment fees (MCF) are going up again.

Amazon FBA and Shopify

Fulfilling your orders from Shopify through FBA is still a great deal, with Amazon taking about 15% of your sales price to pick, pack and ship. It’s still way better than selling directly on Amazon where total commissions can run as high as 35%. But prices are going up, and you’ll need to do some serious research to determine exactly how much, and for which products. The structure of the oversize rates are changing, and supposedly being simplified, but I’ll leave that determination up to you.

Good news is that if you already have FBA Shipping by ByteStand then we have you covered, in real-time no less. All our rates are instantly updated for any changes Amazon might throw your way. If you don’t have FBA Shipping yet, then what are you waiting for? Get FBA Shipping in the Shopify app store today and stop worrying about constantly changing Amazon MCF fees.

Below are all the details from Amazon, including tables and plenty of corporate speak.

Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) fees in the U.S. will be adjusted to reflect the changing costs of fulfillment and to better align with Fulfillment by Amazon’s fee structure. The new rates will take effect on August 30, 2017. We’re notifying you in advance so you can plan for these changes.

We’re introducing the following updates to MCF fees:

• Consolidation of Fulfillment Fees: The Order Handling, Pick & Pack, and Weight Handling fees will be consolidated into a single, per-unit Fulfillment Fee.
• New Product Size Tiers: The current product size tiers will be segmented into the following tiers: Small Standard-Size, Large Standard-Size, Small Oversize, Medium Oversize, Large Oversize, and Special Oversize. Media will no longer be a separate category.
• Discounted Fees for Multi-Unit Orders: We will offer discounted, per-unit fulfillment fees based on the number of units in a customer order for the following product size tiers: Small Standard-Size, Large Standard-Size, and Small Oversize.
• Changes to Unit and Dimensional Weight: We will change the way we calculate unit weight and dimensional weight to match the calculations used by Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) for orders placed on Amazon.com. Unit weight will be calculated by adding individual unit weight to a standard packaging weight and then rounding up to the nearest pound. Dimensional weight will be calculated by taking the unit volume and dividing by 166.
